Assistant Professor
Dr. Mallikarjun Goni is an Assistant Professor specializing in translational cancer glycobiology and regenerative medicine. He holds a doctoral degree from Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belagavi, and a Master's and Bachelor's in Biotechnology from Gulbarga University. With over a decade of experience in research and development, his work focuses on understanding the role of glycosylation in cancer progression, stem cells research and developing cell and cell-based products for regenerative medicine. Previously, he worked as a Research Associate at SDM Research Institute for Biomedical Sciences for seven years, contributing to cancer glycobiology, regenerative medicine, and the development of patient-derived primary cell culture repositories. Prior to that, he has an industry experience, served as a Senior Cell Process Engineer at Regenerative Medical Services Pvt. Ltd. for four years, focusing on stem cell research, stem cell banking and cell therapy for cartilage and bone defects. His research interests include Glyco-oncology, immunomodulation, and advancing cell-based therapeutics for clinical applications.
In my current position as Research Associate, at SDM Research Institute for Biomedical Sciences for more than five years involved in research activities of cancer glycobiology & regenerative medicine.
Previously worked as Senior Cell Process Engineer at Regenerative Medical Services Pvt. Ltd. for four years where involved in stem cell research & cell therapy for cartilage & bone defects.
Cancer glycobiology involved in a research project in order to determine the glycosylation status of the tumour cells & their role in the progression of cancer as well as the microenvironment composed of the immune cells, analysis of selected gene expression levels of glycogenes in tissue & immune cells of the oral cancer subjects, & comparison with the controls.
More research is being planned to determine how glycan-related genes (glycogenes) dysregulation affects cancer in terms of cell signalling, communication, tumour cell dissociation & invasion, interactions with the cell matrix, tumour angiogenesis, immune modulation, & metastasis formation, thereby applying this research outcome to develop targeted immunotherapies to control cancer growth & metastasis.
Regenerative medicine Develop cell & cell-based products for regeneration to treat degenerative diseases.
