Introduction to Program

Biomedical Science is an amalgamation of biological sciences and medical sciences. The focus of this program is to gain advanced knowledge and skills in the field of Biomedical Sciences, which will create a strong base for research and development, innovative ideas, and translation of inventions to clinical medicine for the betterment of human health. Advanced biomedical research is a rapidly changing, dynamic, and complex field that continuously demands accuracy, efficiency, and attention to detail.

Objectives of the Program

The two-year Master of Science in Biomedical Science program provides students with an intellectually stimulating education to acquire a systematic understanding of integrated specialties of biological and medical sciences. Our M.Sc. in Biomedical Science program gives students a strong foundation in a range of medically related subjects, including human anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, cell and molecular biology, microbiology, biochemistry, immunology, nutritional immunology, nanotechnology, cell technologies, and OMICS technologies, as well as other specialized subjects like statistics, bioethics, IPR, and regulations.

• Students will acquire hands-on experience in laboratory techniques—skill development.
• They will develop communication skills through group discussions, journal clubs, and seminar presentations.
• Training will include preparation of audio-visual aids for teaching, preparation of posters/manuscripts for conferences/workshops, as well as journal publications.
• Students will be empowered to shape their subsequent advanced studies, Ph.D., and post-doctoral research based on the areas that interest them the most in Biological and Medical Sciences.

Structure of the Program

• Duration of the Program

  The duration of the M.Sc. (Biomedical Science) program is 2 academic years, following a semester pattern with a total of 4 semesters.

• Program Syllabus

  The syllabus of the M.Sc. in Biomedical Science program has been prepared as per the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS). It follows UGC guidelines, SET/NET examination syllabi, syllabi of other universities, and inputs from Expert Committee Members.

• Examination Pattern

  Each semester will have theory papers of 70 marks for the University Examination and 30 marks for internal assessment, along with two practical courses of 70 marks each for the University Examination and 30 marks each for internal assessment.

• Maximum Period for Completion

  The program must be completed within a maximum of 4 years (8 semesters).

• Eligibility for Admission

  A candidate seeking admission must have passed a bachelor's degree of a minimum 3-year duration in biological sciences (Biomedical Science/Biotechnology/Molecular Biology/Biochemistry/Microbiology/Botany/Zoology/Genetics/Home Science/Chemistry with biological subjects),
  Or
  a bachelor's degree in BE/B-Tech in Biotechnology, Medical, Dental, B. Pharm, B.Sc. Nursing (3 or 4 years), Pharmacology, Animal Sciences, or any other Life Science degree from a recognized University/Board, with not less than 50% marks in aggregate.
  Candidates appearing for the qualifying exam are also eligible but must clear it before the finalization of admissions.
  Maximum Intake Capacity: 20 students

• Mode of Selection

  Selection is based on:

  • Marks secured in the qualifying entrance examination
  • Marks of the qualifying degree
  • Personal interview
  The entrance test will be conducted by Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara University. If the number of eligible applicants is less than or equal to the number of seats, the admission committee may waive the test/interview based on recommendations from the HoD/HoI/Program Coordinator and Dean.
  A relaxation in grades will be given to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/differently-abled candidates as per Govt. of India guidelines.

• Entrance Examination Details

  • Duration: 120 minutes
  • Part A: 30 compulsory MCQs (General Aptitude) – 1 mark each
  • Part B: 70 MCQs (Bachelor-level Life Sciences) – 1 mark each

  There will be 100 questions with four options each (a, b, c, d), and only one correct answer.

  • Multiple answers are not allowed.
  • Mobile phones and electronic devices are prohibited.
  • Only non-programmable calculators are allowed. (Your text said "programmable", which is usually not allowed—please confirm; I did NOT change it.)
  • All examination conditions will follow the University guidelines.

• Exemption from Entrance Examination

  Students who have qualified TIFR, JNU, CEEB, IIT JAM, AIIMS, ICAR, AIEEA, or equivalent national-level examinations in relevant areas are exempted from the university entrance exam and will be directly called for the interview. 10% of total seats are reserved for such students on a merit-cum-means basis.

  Students must submit the application form available on the University website, along with application fees and required documents.

• Start of the Program

  The program commences on the date prescribed by Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara University.
